About Gerald

Introduction

I want to work for you! I have a strong resume leading teams to get results, but more than that, I would like to be your advocate. Together we can address issues that are important to you:

· Reducing Taxes

· Responsible Use of City Funds

· Developing Business

· Building Business / Community Synergy

· Public Safety

If you look at my campaign tagline, "Seek to Understand Before Making Myself Understood" is not an original thought, but one adopted from Stephen Covey’s Seven Habits of Effective Leaders. However, to me, that concept is central to what an effective City Council representative requires: listening to you, the constituents in Ward 1 and 2, and voicing those concerns within the City Council Body.

You’ll see Stephen Covey’s tenets sprinkled throughout my campaign literature because I am a strong believer in these leadership principles. Being proactive, putting first things first, thinking win/win, and learning to synergize...these principles encompass a leadership style that gets results for you.

A little bit about me: I have been married for 33 years to my enduring friend, partner, and wife, Sandra. Together, we raised twin girls who are married and growing their own families. We are proud grandparents with five grandchildren. Sandy and I, along with our Wheaton Terrier Sancho (named after Don Quixote’s trusty and adventurous squire Sancho Panza), live in the Burnside neighborhood.

Experience

I bring over thirty years of experience from my career with the US Postal Service, complemented by my role as a small business owner in the retail printing industry.

During my time at the Postal Service, I held various positions, primarily serving as Postmaster for large delivery, retail, and production units. I led teams in areas such as retail, production, delivery, safety, and Lean Six Sigma, while managing numerous projects. My role involved close collaboration with the public to address their concerns. I served as Postmaster in cities including Chanhassen, Burnsville, St. Cloud, and Cottage Grove in Minnesota, as well as Manitowoc and Eau Claire in Wisconsin. My responsibilities included overseeing performance-driven analytics, budgeting, facilities management, human resources, marketing, and sales.

In addition, I worked in accounting services, where I managed disbursing, payroll, and various accounting procedures for a nationwide accounting and budgeting center. I coordinated financial processes across three National Accounting Service Centers located in Eagan, MN; St. Louis, MO; and San Mateo, CA. Collaborating with leaders at DC Headquarters, I developed and implemented processes to enhance accessibility and improve integrity.

Furthermore, I served as a Senior Sales Representative for the US Postal Service, working with large businesses throughout Southern Minnesota, such as Mayo, Fastenal, and Treasure Island, to create mutually beneficial solutions in direct mail and package services.

As a former small business owner in the printing industry, I understand the dedication required to start, develop, and manage a small business. This commitment is significant and can deeply impact both personal and family life. I have immense respect for small business owners and am dedicated to supporting the small business community in Red Wing.
